  • Shake Things Up
So I've posted in length about my writing trouble. I wouldn't call it writer's block, more like...writer's constipation? I did manage to write something very quickly, which was different than anything I'd written before. That difference helped me focus and get it done very quickly.Sometimes you have to shake things up to shake things […]

Once a week, I post a quote that I’ve read/heard recently. So here’s this week’s Quote I love …

I saw this quote and wanted to share. It can be interpreted in a number of ways, but when I first read it, the line reminded me of Luke Moore, the main character from my debut novel. Luke has forced himself to live a life he never really wanted in order to avoid getting hurt, and it isn’t until he lets himself love again that he finds himself and the life he always wanted.

“Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.”

Alexander Smith
Scottish Poet

So do you have any favorite quotes about love? Comment or send me an email. I’d love to hear from you.

Cheers,
Sloan Parker

Poetry

September 25, 2008

I’ve been messing around with poetry the last couple of days and man, it has rocked. I feel like I’ve found this whole new vehicle to capture my ideas, ponderings, musings, random characters, etc. It has been fun. I wrote some when I was a kid, actually, but haven’t done so in such a long time. It was like meeting up with an old friend and remembering why I really liked them the first time around. The topics have been all over the place, but that’s what makes the genre great. I can just mess around. The poems are short and not meant for publication (at least not yet) so it just lets me be creative, lets the ideas flow, without worrying about where they’ll end up or who will read them. It’s really a great way to journal, to think about my life, to toy with new characters and new topics. Some of the topics I’ve been playing with: contemporary romance (what that means to me), gay life, love, vampires, sci-fi (which I haven’t written much of), historical romance. I’ll try to post some of it on my website when I get a few that I like but don’t think I’ll publish or submit anywhere else. Since this is all really new for me, I’d love any feedback. I’ll create a page on the site when they are ready to read.
