Quote I Love: The Inconvenience of Being a Writer

Here’s this week’s quote I love from writer Victor J. Banis…

“…I can get those ideas anywhere and everywhere – sometimes at the most inconvenient times. I have actually been making whoopee with someone and had this killer bit of dialogue slip into my head. Talk about losing your focus!”

Victor J. Banis (author)
From Rick Reed’s blog series Why I Write

Almost spit my OJ on the keyboard with that one. Thanks for sharing, Victor.

Happily Ever After? A Requirement in Love Stories?

Once a week I post about something I’m loving (tv, movies, books, art, photos, romances, authors, or anything else). So here is this week’s For the Love of…

I love intense drama in the fiction I read and write. I love emotional and physical conflict. I love when characters suffer. I like to “watch” them squirm (both in and out of the bedroom). Yeah, I’m evil like that. ;-)

I want to experience their journey as they build themselves back up, stronger than ever. I like a love story where the characters help each other find peace and happiness–help each other become who each is meant to be.

And in the end? I want the happy ending. I want to go along for the ride on their emotional journey and feel that peace myself. To be reminded that even when the world around us can really suck, those moments of love and happiness make the journey worth living.

Yep, I’m a sap. How about you? Do you only read love stories with happy endings?

Quote I Love: Helen Keller

Once a week I post a quote I love. It may be related to writing, inspiration, lgbt issues, my own life, or anything else that interests me. So here’s this week’s Quote I Love…

“When we do the best that we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another.”

Helen Keller

I’ve seen this quote many times over the years, and I still love it. This woman always amazed me. Nothing held her back. We should all be so brave and bold.

Quote I Love: A Writer is a Writer Because…

Once a week, I post a quote that I’ve read/heard recently. So here’s this week’s Quote I Love …

Here’s a quote for anyone who’s going after a dream. Who’s putting a buttload of energy and time and sweat into their passion. Who’s having setbacks and moments of doubt. Who has everything and everyone around them saying they should give up, but you don’t want to. Junot Díaz was right where you are. He almost gave up. But he persevered. He pulled out his old, crappy manuscript, and kept writing. And then he won the Pulitzer Prize.

“In my view a writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.”

Junot Díaz
Pulitzer Prize Winner for 2008
From his article titled:  Battling my way to a Pulitzer Prize novel

No matter what your dream, I hope you have the strength and determination to stick with it. I believe if you work hard enough, most goals are achievable. Unfortunately, some people just have a longer road to travel. It is those people who really know what it means to accomplish something. And I hope when that moment comes for you, you know how to have a party and celebrate!

Best of luck to you all!

Video I love: The Delirium of a Writer

Once a week, I post a video I’ve seen recently that I’m loving. So here’s this week’s Video I love …

I’ve had this episode of The Golden Girls saved on my DVR for a few weeks now. I just watched it again the other day. It’s one of my favorites. In this scene, Blanche is writing a romance novel and has been up for days writing. It cracks me up every time. I hope all you writers and readers of romance novels will find it funny too. Heck, if you’ve ever stayed up for more than 24 hours intensely working on one thing, you know where Blanche is coming from. That delirium that makes you either extremely funny or extremely annoying to others. In this case, Blanche nails the funny side of it. Rue McClanahan’s delivery is perfect.

Enjoy!

Some of my favorite lines from Blanche:

“I have too many earrings.”
“Buy me a present.”
“What could you possibly find to lie about on a farm?”
“I must publish a guide to go with my book.”
“It will be taught in universities.”
“Rose, what is this? Your eyeballs are staring at me.”

I’m amazed Rose could keep a straight face. I wonder how many times they had to shoot this.

Anyone else still love the The Golden Girls? Which episode was your favorite?
