Character Pics for a New m/m Erotic Romance

This week I took a short break from my regular writing to work on character sketches for my new friends-to-lovers story about two best friends since high school, Evan and Kyle. It’s a contemporary m/m erotic romance, and at this time I have no plans for a suspense element. There’s no title yet, but the outline is pretty much done. I also started the first draft of chapter one (just to get all the ideas down).

Here are the photos I’m using for inspiration (not that the character descriptions will be exactly like this, but it gives me an idea to work from).

I’ll keep you posted on the progress. Next I’m going back to working on Walter’s story, but will work on this one as any new ideas come to me.

Have a good weekend,

Brainstorming Retreat – I needed this!

I just finished working with my editor on Breathe, and we’ve sent it off for line edits and proofing. Perfect timing too because I’m spending today and the rest of the weekend at a writing retreat with a group of fellow romance writers who are some of the most creative, fun people I’ve had the privilege of hanging with. Today we are all writing and doing a bit of brainstorming. Tomorrow is our meeting and a full day of brainstorming to help each other with plot points and new story ideas.

I need weekends like this. I spend a lot of time in my writing cave, and it’s good for me to send time with others who know what it means to be a writer. Who get why I’m crazy sometimes. Who get the need to spend hours working on rewriting chapter 1. Who understand my dreams and disappointments.

Here are a couple of quotes already heard during the first half of the day:

“I can’t help it if your crack was in my face.”
“artificial immaculate insemination”
“We should have brought a blow up doll.”

I’m getting a little worried. Who knows what will happen once we dip into the booze.

Have a great weekend!

Another sneak peek from Breathe

I spent this week working on edits for my upcoming release due out at Loose Id on November 16, 2010. So I thought I’d share another quote from Jay and Lincoln’s story, Breathe (m/m erotic romantic suspense).

No matter what Jay’s brain was telling him about what a fucked-up idea this was, he could not ignore the solid cock wedged against his ass cheek. No more thinking. He turned and gripped Lincoln’s neck. He drew the man to him. The kiss was slow and sensual, but tinged with desperate need, a longing months alone created in a man. Lincoln drove their mouths, their tongues, their bodies together, over and over. He consumed Jay with the kiss as they rocked and clutched. The taste of Lincoln, his smell, his touch was everywhere, all over Jay at once, and he didn’t want it to end.

I’ll post a full excerpt when the final edits are approved.

More about Richard Marshall

Here are some more behind the story details about More, specifically some of my first notes for the character of Richard Marshall. These are directly from the original character sketch sheet, including the photo I used for inspiration. (Side note: The final result of what a character looks like may be nothing like the photo, but an image gives me something to visualize, making him/her a bit more real. Also, some of the character traits change as I write the story. Some become no longer relevant.)

Photo for Inspiration: This is not exactly what he ended up looking like in my mind (especially the hair), but here’s the first photo of Richard.

And here’s his bod.

Free Fiction: A Lesson in Truth by Sloan Parker

Hi all. This week was a productive one. I worked on notes & characters for two new stories, I’m now 16,000 words into Walter’s book (a secondary character from More), and I posted a free short story on my site today. If you want to check it out here’s the link and blurb for the short, A Lesson in Truth.

David’s a graduate student about to finish his thesis. Michael’s his advisor and former instructor. The two shouldn’t have feelings for each other, but after two years of friendship and longing, David can no longer deny what he’s feeling. Is Michael ready to accept being more than a teacher to a man fifteen years younger? And if they give into their desires, is it only a way for them to say goodbye?
