Sloan’s Favorites: Best friends become lovers in TAKE ME HOME

Here’s another selection in my “Favorite Scenes” series. It’s from TAKE ME HOME, winner of the Oklahoma RWA’s International Digital Awards in the Contemporary Novel category.

Why I chose this excerpt: This is Kyle and Evan’s first kiss in ten years, and it starts them down an inevitable, explosive path. I loved taking a guy like Kyle and transforming him so he’s totally fixated on one man, focused on proving himself to the only sexual partner he’s ever loved.

Take Me Home

Evan shivered. Which made no sense. He was still warm from the run, the sweat on his skin not even dry yet.

Kyle took another step. Evan wanted him to stop. He wanted to shout all the reasons why this had to stop, before it got started, wanted to tell Kyle not to move another inch.

He didn’t.

And Kyle didn’t stop coming at him until they were practically touching, Kyle staring down at him.

Evan tried to focus on Kyle’s words, on the news about the journal and his grandpa, but all he could think about was what he’d seen when he’d walked into the apartment: Kyle, all skin and taut muscles, wearing only his tight-as-sin white underwear, the briefs stretched over his cock, and the way Kyle had looked at him in the dim light of the hallway.

Just once. He’s leaving anyway. Evan closed his eyes and forced himself to concentrate on the conversation. He looked up at Kyle again. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah.” Kyle said the word with a slight curve of his lips. He took a step back and reclined against the wall, looking casual, like he was about to flirt with a bartender for a free drink. “After I read it, I was thinking about that night in the motel room in Iowa on our first drive out here.” He slowly swung his head in Evan’s direction. “Do you remember that night?”

Evan nodded.

“Do you ever think about it?” Kyle’s voice was barely a whisper.

Up until a few months ago, Evan hadn’t let himself, but since he’d moved in with Kyle… “Sometimes.”

“Like right now?”

“Yeah.”

Kyle slid along the wall, traveling the last remnants of space between them. “Ev, I’ve been waiting ten years to finish what we started.” He pushed off the wall and turned until they were face-to-face again, his dark eyes unflinching as he leaned in. He stopped before their lips touched. The heat of that mouth and body so close stoked the fire inside Evan.

His own body reacted, his cock pushing at his shorts. He wanted to shove Kyle against the wall and kiss him until morning, do everything he’d ever dreamed of when it came to touching Kyle, everything he ached to feel about the man.

The smile Kyle gave him next wasn’t the usual cocky one he’d used with countless guys over the years. He pressed forward and slid his lips along Evan’s skin from the base of his neck to his earlobe, leaving a trail of goose bumps in his wake. He lingered over Evan’s ear and whispered, “You smell so damn good. I want to fuck you, Ev.”

Evan shivered again. “We shouldn’t…” He couldn’t say more. Didn’t want to. The time for talking was over. Kyle ran the tip of his tongue along the outside of Evan’s ear, and Evan instinctively moved closer. His breath hitched with the touch of Kyle’s bare abs against him. Why had he worn a T-shirt to go running?

Using only the weight of his body, Kyle turned them until Evan’s back was against the hall wall, then flattened his palms to the wall on either side of Evan’s head. He licked his lips and spread his legs until their bodies lined up groin to groin, then rolled his hips, putting pressure against Evan’s cock. “God, Ev…”

With that movement, those two words, Evan groaned and let his head fall back to the wall. He couldn’t stop himself. He rocked his hips in time with Kyle’s. The feel of Kyle’s body, his hard cock against him, drove Evan’s own arousal higher.

Kyle spoke again, his voice even lower. “It could be so fucking good.”

Evan lost track of the arguments he’d been telling himself since he’d left the apartment earlier. He raised his head, and their lips met, the softest brush of flesh until Kyle opened his mouth, seized Evan by the back of the head, and slid his tongue into the touch. The kiss deepened, and Evan thought he’d never be able to stop feeling Kyle’s mouth on his, their tongues pressed together.

Sloan’s Favorites: An excerpt from my M/M Erotic Romance THE BREAK-IN

Here’s my fourth selection in my “Favorite Scenes” series.

Why I chose this excerpt: I’ve always been a fan of the calm, private moments where people who are in love allow themselves to be vulnerable with each other, when they are lying in bed together, sharing intimacies and dialogue that only they (and the reader) can fully understand.

Spoiler Alert: this excerpt is taken from the end of the story and gives away certain twists.

Roger sighed. “Damn. You always were a sweet fuck.”

I laughed and smacked his arm. “I’m feeling the love.”

He sat up so fast the bed creaked. He leaned over me. “You should. And next time, don’t run from it.”

I nodded, and Roger sank back to the bed.

Doug reached for the blankets and lifted them over us. “Sleep.”

I could do that. I hadn’t been so relaxed since the night before I’d been arrested.

“Billy,” Roger said.

“Huh?”

“I think we had a break-in. They left the window open.”

I laughed again. Leaving the window open had been my reminder I had to leave. When I jerked off on their sheets, it was easy to focus on my cock and forget my heart. Forget I didn’t belong there.

I threw the covers back, lunged for the window across the room, and tripped. I landed on the floor with my feet stuck in the twisted blanket and my hands gripping the long curtains on either side of the window.

Doug laughed, cackled, whatever you called it when someone couldn’t sit up and was clutching their gut while the laughs poured out.

Roger shifted to the foot of the bed and peered down at me. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I am now.” I kicked off the blanket, stood, and slammed the window shut. The faint sounds of honking horns, the hum of the traffic, the occasional shout disappeared. All I heard was the slowing laughter behind me and the low, deep voice that said, “You’re home, Billy.”

Where Things Stand: Writing Updates

News

Want to know where things are with my current works-in-progress? Here are a few status updates.

It seems my new early, EARLY morning writing routine is really working for me. It’s been great for my output and creativity.

  • The first draft of MORE THAN EVER (More Book 3) is finished. I’m letting the story sit for a bit while I work on the Haven book 2, and then I’ll come back and do revisions.
  • I’m currently working on HOW TO HEAL A LIFE (The Haven Book 2). The initial draft is going really well. I’m absolutely loving the intensity and chemistry between Seth and Vargas. The other day I wrote what is so far my favorite scene with them. Seth is stronger than he realizes, and Vargas is even more in love than he thought.
  • Jotted down notes for The Haven series book 3. I cannot wait. I’m not sharing the names of the two guys for this one yet. At least not until I’m nearing the end of writing book 2, just in case my plans change.
  • Wrapped up the first draft of IN THIS MOMENT (a friends-to-lovers novella). At over 36,000 words, this one might actually turn into a short novel when it’s all done.
  • Also finished a new short story tentatively titled MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.
  • And the new design for my website is all done and approved. When it’s finished, it’ll be more mobile friendly with a new look and easier to follow updates right on the homepage. Can’t wait until all the content’s loaded and it’s up and running!

Thanks for checking out my latest progress.

An excerpt from SWEPT AWAY (free M/M fiction)

I’ve made some awesome progress on my current projects lately, so I hope you don’t mind the recent lack of blog posts. (If you’re curious about what I’ve been working on, you can see the latest status updates on the Works-in-Progress page of my website.)

One of the things I’ve been wanting to do with the blog is get a few excerpts of my published works posted since a fair number of new readers find me through this site. So starting this week, I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite moments from each of my titles.

To start things off, here’s an excerpt from SWEPT AWAY with Eddie and Mike

Why I chose this excerpt: I’ve always loved the contrast of how Eddie was feeling in this moment (when he first enters the cool ocean water and sees how happy Mike is) with the way he was feeling earlier (both in the stifling courtroom and at the airport when he was hot and sticky and thought he was about to see Mike’s ex).

Swept Away by Sloan Parker

Setup: The biggest case of Eddie’s career and nothing’s going right. He’s stuck in a stifling courtroom with no air conditioning during the worst heat wave in years, and the judge has denied his latest motion. He just wants to spend a quiet night celebrating with his partner, Mike, on their fifteenth anniversary. But Mike has a surprise in mind this year. A surprise that may be more than Eddie imagined possible.

“Race you,” he said, then jumped off the deck and ran onto the beach stark naked, heading for the water’s edge.

“Asshole,” I called out as I kicked off my shorts and shoes. I chased after him, laughing all the way to the water. He’d already made it in waist-high by the time I got there. He splashed me as I ran in. I lunged at him, and he let out a huge-ass giggle as I wrapped my arms around his chest from behind. A fucking giggle.

Wait. That hadn’t come from him. It was from me. His laugh still sounded like a guy his size normally would. It sounded great. I sounded like a kid running to get to the dodgeball first at recess. Maybe it was the sound of pure joy.

I had every intention of dunking him under the water, but I gave up on that idea. I couldn’t bring myself to end his laughter. Better to cut off my own embarrassing sounds. I let go of him, dove under the surface, and basked in the cool water that surrounded my heated flesh from head to toe. The stickiness of the past twelve hours washed away, and every concern and worry went with it.

Maybe I had been under too long. His large hands grabbed my arms and yanked me up. “Come here.” He brought his lips to mine. The stubble on his face was wet, and the water dripped to my chest as we pressed closer together.

He grabbed the back of my head and parted his lips. So many times we’d done this, a caress of tongues, the intensity building, our cocks growing harder as our bodies surged together, as we shifted our hips and found the rhythm that drove us both to the edge. But we’d never done anything outside. We’d fucked year after year in front of forty guys, but not once had he given me a simple kiss on the lips outside of our place or a gay bar. Never outdoors where someone might see. Never standing naked in the ocean.

He backed up a few steps toward the cottage tugging me along with him, never stopping the touches or the kisses until we reached the water’s edge. He pulled me down to the sand until I was lying on top of him. I braced myself, hands in the wet sand on each side of his head, and lined up our bodies groin to groin. I stared down at him. The wet hair on his chest shone in the dim light of the moon. The muscles of his biceps flexed as he ran his palms down my arms. His eyes crinkled up again at the corners as he gave me a slow smile. God, he’d never looked better. The swell of the surf rolled in around us, the water shallow, barely an inch deep where he had decided to get horizontal. Such a smart man.

We moved together, creating friction that had my cock wet at the tip for reasons that had nothing to do with the ocean. I rocked faster, loving the groan he gave up as my shaft grazed the sensitive skin below the head of his dick. I didn’t want the moment to end. But I also wanted the wave of orgasm to crash into us both, like the surf washing over our tangled limbs. I wanted to watch his face in the moonlight as he came.

He must have had another idea. “Eddie, stop. Up. Inside.” Maybe those were all the words he could form right then.
